The Artist Within - What is the definition of success?

I wrote an article for the “Art, Artists, Artwork” website, called “The Right Art-itude” for success. I cover all the necessary tools needed to get your art career started. Nowhere in that article did I mention making money, and someone commented on that subject. Now, I’m not one to respond to strangers comments. However, it got me thinking about how I define success and it has nothing to do with money.
Let’s be honest here, I go through long periods of not selling a thing. I may be talented but people don’t always want to buy. It’s the reality of being an artist. It's also the reason why money is not the motivation. I would keep painting even if I never made a dime, which is how much I love it! What is important to me is, living a fulfilled and joyful life. Money is merely one by-product of all the time and effort you put in to something you love.
I have three loves in my life: art, writing and exercise. These are the things I love the most and get to do every day. How fortunate am I? Artists, who really feel the drive to create, do so because it’s inborn. It’s as natural as breathing and equally as important to our survival.
I pose this question: Would you rather do a job you hate and be rich or do a job you love and be happy? Remember, money is a by-product and those who have a lot aren’t 'necessarily' doing what they love to get it.
What is the definition of success? I do what I love and happen to make an income. I have a happy life because I do what makes me happy. If this isn’t success, I don’t know what is.
Happy Painting!
