The Artist Within - “The Creative Lull”

It’s normal to experience periods of not painting. In the last few months, I admit that my energy and focus have been lacking. The last thing I feel like doing is picking up the paintbrush.
Ideas Will Come
Creativity is like a rainstorm. Sometimes, the land is dry, and then all of a sudden, ideas pour out. If the ideas aren’t there, you simply cannot force them. Maybe it’s the onslaught of summertime, and there’s more to do outside. For me, May was just so incredibly busy that I needed to give my mind and body a rest. Being patient is all I can do, and I firmly believe ideas will come when I’m ready.
Take Courses
If you’re eager to get back into the swing of things, consider taking an art course. Meta 4 Gallery is a great local spot, and I’ve taken many courses there. You may need a nudge in the right direction, so learning something new may just be for you.
A Change of Pace
When I’m not painting, I do have other creative avenues. For example, I participated in a Podcast called “Happy Moments,” which will be on Spotify. I shared my journey as an artist and how I overcame my mental health issues. Doing something completely different and out of your comfort zone is a great way to spend your time.
Pursue Opportunities
My current focus is to get my work in to local businesses. I’m also pursuing the Artist in Residence at the McLaughlin Gallery and Parkwood Estates. I hope to get my Christmas ornaments made asap and get them in store for Christmas.
We all go thru lulls as artists. Whether it’s pursuing local or international opportunities, there’s always something you can do.
Happy Painting!
