For the Love of Movement
Why do I love to move my body? I've always had an excellent relationship with exercise because it's always been a part of my life. It's normal and natural, like breathing to me. My mom was always active when I was little, so in my mind, it was normal to move. It still is!
Move Because You Can
In my line of work, I spend time with people who aren't capable of doing basic tasks. I also spend time at local long-term care homes and meet people who are wheelchair bound. Some do not even have legs to walk on. Being able to move your body is a privilege that most people don't value until it's gone. Move your body while you can because there are people who can't. They'd trade places with you in a heartbeat.
Find Something You Love
Movement is really about what makes YOU happy. Perhaps you like to dance? Maybe you like to do tai chi or go kayaking? Anything that makes you feel happy is something you're bound to stick to. That's how you start forging a good relationship with movement.
Form A Good Relationship
Having a good relationship with exercise is possible. Finding something you love is imperative and with that you will create lasting memories. I encourage you to reframe your thinking. A good relationship starts with you. Loving yourself means looking after yourself. Movement should help make you feel better about who you are.
You Can Do it
Even those of you furrowing your brow and thinking, "Exercise is not fun, this girl is crazy!" If it's not fun, then perhaps try something else. Go out and do what you enjoy; that's all it comes down to. I can't tell you what to do; I will encourage you to try.
Exercise is hard, but it doesn't have to be. Doing something for the love of movement comes down to deciding what moves you. A little bit of effort goes a long way to forging a long-lasting relationship with movement.
