SCUGOG: Students looking to line up a summer job will have the chance to meet Township staff, later this month, when Scugog hosts a Student Job Fair, on Monday, December 29th, at the Scugog Community Recreation Centre.
The drop-in event runs from 3 to 5 p.m. and is open to both high school and post-secondary students. Departments represented will include: aquatics, summer camps, parks, communications, the Scugog Shores Museum, and special events. Full job postings can be found on the Township’s current opportunities webpage.
Past student employees say, the experience helped them build skills and confidence. Iain Cooper, who worked several summers for the Township, said, the job gave him a better understanding of what it’s like to be part of a workplace.
“It really helped me get used to working with people and dealing with the public,” Mr. Cooper said. “I didn’t really know what to expect going in, but I learned a lot, and it made me feel more prepared for other jobs.”
Another former student employee, Mack Lane, said, attending a job fair like this can make a big difference.
“Talking to the staff, in person, made everything way less intimidating,” Mr. Lane said. “You get a feel for what the jobs are actually like, and applying right there just made it easier. I’d tell any student to give it a shot.”
Students attending the fair will be able to meet area supervisors, ask questions, learn about the roles available, and apply on the spot.
To take part, applicants must be at least 15 years old, at the start of employment, returning to school in Autumn of 2026, or graduating in Spring of 2026, and should bring a résumé. Dressing for success is also encouraged.
The Student Job Fair will be held at the Scugog Community Recreation Centre, located at 1655 Reach St., in Port Perry. More information is available on the Township’s current opportunities webpage, or by contacting Human Resources, at resumes@scugog.ca.
