EPSOM & UTICA by Faye Ashton

The corn is even crying louder than last time we visited, but no rain this week either to nurture its cry. Saves gas, though at its exorbitant price for cutting the lawns, and the farmers are getting their grains combined in dry weather and baling too. We learn to take the bad with the good.

We send sympathy to Elva Kerry and her family in the passing of her brother Cloyne Stearman on July 30th. Cloyne was married to Jannette Dobson, formally of Bethesda (2011), and we also send sympathy to their son Robert and daughter Arlene and family.

A beautiful showing of classic cars (AACA Ontario club ) arrived at Arnold and Gail Kerry’s home on Sunday afternoon for a BBQ. A bountiful array of deserts accompanied the roast beef on a bun and salad meal. A lovely social time was enjoyed. Thanks to Arnold and Gail and Bob and Annie for hosting.

The Ashton farm is hosting the Durham Region plowing match on Saturday, September 3rd. The community is invited to watch this event which showcases excellence in plowing with tractors and teams of horses.
