To start, here is a great quote: Laugh your heart out, dance in the rain. Cherish the moment, ignore the pain Live, Laugh, love, forgive and forget Life is too short to be living with regret!
Happy 28th Anniversary to David and Dorinda Meek! David is the son of Bob and Sally Meek. He has not lived around here for many years but has lots of family here. Bob recently moved from Butternut to live with him and Dorinda.
Happy Anniversary to Karen and Jerry Popadynec! Karen is one of the hardworking daughters of Bruce and Barb Harwood. Her big brother Steve also celebrated a birthday quite recently but lives many miles from here.
Happy birthday to friend and sorority sister Shirley Baster, chasing the rest of us! A big congratulations to our young Grace Risebrough, who is now 18 and a student at Guelph. She is enjoying her classes. Her family came to see her for her birthday!
Also celebrating was Jeff, son of Debbie Jennings Wilson and Steve. Another big one goes to Colin Murphy. Colin lives north of here a bit. He is one of the big Murphy family who bought my original farmhouse and barn. Colin wasn’t so old then! I am sure he is itching to get back on stage and start performing again with his troupe!
Dwight and Deborah Clements spent the weekend again with their daughter Rachel, husband and newborn granddaughter. Ostensibly to celebrate Dwight’s birthday but really to see that baby again!
Tish MacDonald once more celebrated the 97th birthday of veteran Jim Parks. Jim was involved with cadets from the age of 10, the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders from age 15. After spending time in army camps, he travelled to England in 1941. In 1944 he was part of, and survived, the landing on Juno Beach as a combat engineer. Our thanks and best wishes to Jim!
Happy to say the Dorothy Baker was released from the hospital last Monday and is back at Butternut, hopefully getting the care needed while they stabilize her condition.
Unhappy to say that Earle Lockerby has been experiencing some health issues and is presently in the hospital to be kept an eye on. Good news, hopefully soon!
I noted a week or so ago that Ross Colby was retiring. Ross ran a woodworking shop and created many lovely pieces of furniture that now graces many homes in the area. His son Daniel is an artist of note and shows his work in the same location. Ross and John’s father, Howard, were early pioneers for the Uxbridge-Scott Historical Society and the museum. Ross no doubt gained much skill from his father. His father also made the best cider and demonstrated the process each year at the Steam Show. Best wishes to Ross and Alice in retirement.
Many of us from the Epsom area were saddened to hear of the passing of Joyce Wilson Lewchuk. Joyce was the daughter of Marie Simpson and Earl Wilson, whose family’s farm was across the road from us. There are many relatives in this area, even though Joyce had not lived with her for many years.
Adele Boy was among those representatives for Maamawe Collective; an organization started some time ago by Barbara Blower. They were handing out orange ribbons at the Farmer’s market to people to be placed around town during the walk on Thursday, September 30th, in honour of Truth and Reconciliation Day.
Congratulations once more to young Mack Moore and her horse Satan on winning the Youth Pole competition. This took place at Feversham, the Dodge Ram Rodeo Tour. They are making their mark for sure!
This Saturday, October 2nd (already hard to believe), is another Leaskdale Loop day. There are a great many artists, craftspeople, food makers, etc., involved in this project which has been going for a couple of months now with good success. The Foster will also be on the list this time, but unfortunately, inside tours are still not allowed.
Sandford United Church will celebrate its Anniversary on October 17th, and Zephyr’s United Church will celebrate on October 23rd. Doug Ferris will be the guest minister for Sandford, with Melinda Delorme playing and singing. Some of our hardworking parishioners will be honoured.
