Vertical Farming 101: Webinar Series

From building a business plan to finding partners, this FREE webinar series walks you through the ins and outs of vertical farming. This seminar will help you build a comprehensive business plan to find the right community partners. The webinar series walks you through the ins and outs of vertical farming in our four-part event series.

The workshop consists of four webinar sessions that will occur throughout February 2022. They are scheduled every Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Webinar #1: Introduction to Vertical Farming – Led by OMAFRA | February 3rd, 2022 This webinar will introduce Vertical Farming, including technologies available, research, and what can be grown. Participants will have a detailed overview of to set up a farm, including a presentation from the vertical farming business, Mighty Harvest Produce.

Webinar #2: Applied Principles of Vertical Farming – Led by Seneca College and York Region | February 10th, 2022 This webinar will focus on real-world applications of vertical farming principles through a case study presented by Boreal Greens. Participants will examine different cultivation techniques, including aquaponics and hydroponics, and develop an understanding of the requirements to start and grow an indoor farming business on a commercial scale.

Webinar #3: Navigating Approvals Process and Permits for Vertical Farming – Led by OMAFRA | February 17th, 2022 This webinar will provide a high-level overview of the permit and approvals process for setting up a vertical farm from land use, building code and wastewater perspective. A recent start-up business will also share its experience of obtaining permits and approvals.

Webinar #4: Community & Academia Partners for Vertical Farming – Led by Durham College and Durham Region | February 24th, 2022 This webinar will focus on examples from colleges that support vertical farming, with examples of local partnerships that students have developed.
