SCUGOG: The Scugog Memorial Public Library will soon sparkle with festive spirit, as preparations are underway for its Annual Snowflake Sale, taking place from November 21st to December 19th.
Each year, the Snowflake Sale transforms the library into a holiday marketplace, showcasing the creativity of local artists and artisans. Shoppers can expect to find everything, from hand-knit scarves and wooden toys to pottery, paintings, jewelry, and festive ornaments, all carefully crafted by people from across the community.
“Our Snowflake Sale is a tradition which brings the community together in such a special way,” said Sarah White, Chief Executive Officer of the Scugog Library. “It’s more than just holiday shopping, it’s about celebrating local creativity while supporting the library.”
The sale has become a much-anticipated stop on the holiday calendar for many local families, who return, year after year, to discover unique gifts and one-of-a-kind treasures. Beyond the charm of handmade goods, the event also carries a deeper purpose: supporting the library itself. Thirty percent of all sales go directly toward library programs and services.
“Every purchase makes a difference,” Ms. White explained. “When people buy a handmade gift, they’re not only supporting a local artisan, but also helping us sustain the programs and resources which make the library such a vital part of this community.”
Since space is limited, applications are carefully reviewed by a committee, to ensure the Snowflake Sale offers shoppers a balance of variety and craftsmanship. The result is a curated marketplace which celebrates both artistry and quality.
“We want shoppers to walk in and be delighted by the range of talent on display,” said Ms. White. “It’s a chance for artists to share their work with a wider audience, and for the community to discover something truly unique. There’s a real warmth in knowing the items you’re giving this holiday season were made by someone right here in our community.”
The Snowflake Sale not only provides an outlet for local creators but also fills the library with a festive buzz. Shoppers browsing for gifts often linger to enjoy the cozy atmosphere, creating a sense of togetherness which mirrors the holiday season itself.
