SCUGOG: There is still plenty of time for local residents to make the most of the summer, at Scugog Public Library, with reading programs, a new collection of puzzles, community displays, and a chance to win gift cards to some of Port Perry’s local businesses.

The library’s Summer Reading Club continues through to August 31st, and more than 500 people have already signed up for the summer program.

It is not too late to join.

Participants, who register for the TD Summer Reading Club, receive a Read & Bead necklace and can earn beads by spending time reading or being read to. Audiobooks and ebooks also count toward the program, making it easy for readers of all ages to take part.

Families can also pick up the library’s TD Summer Reading Club program calendar, which highlights the various activities and programs being offered throughout July and August.

For those looking for another reason to visit the library, the 2026 Summer Checkout Challenge is also underway.

During the summer months, library users have been able to pick up a Challenge card and earn one stamp for every item they check out. Once 10 stamps have been collected, participants are entered into a draw, for a Treats of the Town gift basket, featuring gift cards to local shops and restaurants in Port Perry.

There is no limit to the number of entries an individual can earn, and the contest runs until August 31st.

The library has also added something new to its collection, following popular demand: puzzles.

Library patrons can now borrow puzzles, just as they would books or other library materials. They can check out a puzzle, take it home to complete, return it to the library, and choose another one.

Most of the puzzles in the collection contain 300 pieces or more and can be found near the magazines.

Meanwhile, visitors to the library, later this month, will have an opportunity to see some impressive creations from local builders.

The popular Brick Masters Showcase returns, and will remain until Sunday, August 23rd, featuring creations built by members of the community. Residents are invited to drop by the library, during the showcase, to see what local builders have been creating with their bricks.

With summer winding down, the library is encouraging residents to take advantage of the remaining weeks of August, to discover everything it has to offer; whether that means picking up a new book, participating in the Summer Reading Club, borrowing a puzzle, or checking out the latest community showcase.
