Scugog closes their outdoor skating rink early

SCUGOG: Recent weather conditions have forced Scugog Township to close their outdoor arena, sooner than they originally planned to.

The closure of the skating rink, at the Joe Fowler North Diamond, was announced to Scugog Councillors, at a meeting on Monday, March 4th.

“Due to the warmer temperatures, the skating rink at the Lakefront Skate and Market will be closing for the season. The vendor village, however, will remain open and in place for the next few weeks. So please come out, and enjoy and support those local vendors,” Lori Bowers, Scugog’s Director of Community Services, said.

The rink had been scheduled to close in the middle of this month and had been open since early December. The rink and market was created with funding assistance from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario.

“Although this season is at its end, it is not the end for the Lakefront Skating Rink. We are planning to re-open the rink through the 2024-25 winter season,” a Scugog Township press release stated.
