SCUGOG: Families across Scugog will once again have access to a summer favourite, as the Township’s Park and Play program returns for another season of free recreation activities, for local children.
Running weekdays, from July 6th to August 28th, Park and Play brings the excitement of Camp Scugog directly into neighbourhood parks, offering games, sports, crafts, themed activities and more, for children aged 4 to 12.
The free drop-in program operates, from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., with no registration required. Participation is limited to 20 children at a time, on a first-come, first-served basis.
“We are thrilled to bring Park and Play back, to communities throughout Scugog, this summer,” said Shawna Cornish, Manager of Recreation and Culture for the Township of Scugog. “The program gives children the opportunity to stay active, make new friends, and enjoy a fun camp experience close to home, all at no cost to families.”
Each weekday, activities will take place in a different community park. Stops include: Ianson Park, in Greenbank on Mondays, Palmer Park, in Port Perry on Tuesdays, Seagrave Park, on Wednesdays, Apple Valley Park, in Port Perry on Thursdays, and Pioneer Park, in Blackstock on Fridays.
Organizers say, participants can look forward to a variety of themed weeks, throughout the summer, including: STEM Quest, Sports Showdown, Art Adventures, Water Wars and other creative activities designed to keep children engaged and entertained.
“One of the things children love most about Park and Play is, there is always something new to experience,” Ms. Cornish said. “Whether they enjoy science activities, sports, crafts or outdoor games, our camp leaders work hard to create a welcoming environment, where every child can have fun and build confidence.”
The program is also supported by local businesses and community organizations which contribute through sponsored treats, giveaways and special activities. Township staff are encouraging additional organizations to get involved, to help enhance the summer experience for participants.
“We are incredibly grateful for the support we receive from community partners,” added Ms. Cornish. “Their involvement helps us create memorable experiences for participants and demonstrates the strong community spirit which makes Scugog such a wonderful place to live.”
Parents are reminded, children should wear closed-toed shoes and are encouraged to bring a hat, sunscreen and a reusable water bottle, to stay comfortable during outdoor activities.
More information, including weekly themes and program details, is available through the Township of Scugog’s Park and Play webpage.
With eight weeks of free programming planned across the township, organizers expect another summer filled with laughter, learning and community connection, in Scugog’s parks.
