MoJacks melt Ice, lose close game to Chiefs

DAN CEARNS, The Standard

SCUGOG: While the Port Perry MoJacks were only able to play two of their final three scheduled games of the regular season, they were still able to get three out of the four available points.

The MoJacks faced the Lakefield Chiefs on Wednesday, March 2nd. The first goal of the game did not come until the second period. Nearly 14 and a half minutes into that frame, Nolan Goddard scored, making it a 1-0 MoJacks game.

But, over three minutes into the third period, a Chiefs’ shot beat goaltender Gavin Bradt, tying the game up 1-1. Eight and a half minutes later, the Chiefs struck again, putting Port Perry behind 2-1. With time winding down in the period, Justin Jacobs scored, tying the game 2-2 and sending it to overtime.

However, nearly six minutes into overtime, the Chiefs got the winning goal, and the MoJacks lost 3-2.

The MoJacks were able to get some redemption in a game on Friday, March 4th, against the Georgina Ice.

Four minutes into the first period, Jacobs scored the first goal of the game. Then, with just a minute left in the frame, Nick Chokrev-Cerpnjak put the puck in the net, extending the lead to 2-0. With just a couple of seconds left in the period, J.P. Nolan made it 3-0 with a goal.

There were no goals scored in the second period, despite Port Perry outshooting the Ice 14 to 10.

Nearly six minutes into the third period, the Ice would cut the lead to 3-1 with a goal. But, six minutes later, Nolan scored his second goal of the game, restoring the MoJacks’ three-goal lead. Then, with 35 seconds remaining in the period, Dale Faubert beat the Ice goaltender to make it a 5-1 game. The Ice would score 12 seconds later, but the MoJacks held on to win 5-2.

The MoJacks had been scheduled to host the Clarington Eagles at Scugog Arena, on Sunday, March 6th. However, that game was cancelled due to a power outage in Port Perry.
