UXBRIDGE: A Canadian Olympic equestrian, longtime community supporters, and a standout local baseball team are among the latest inductees into the Uxbridge Kinsmen Sports Wall of Fame.

The Class of 2026 was celebrated during a ceremony, at the Uxbridge Senior Centre, on Thursday, October 15th, recognizing individuals and athletes whose achievements, volunteerism and contributions have helped shape the community’s sporting legacy.

Among the inductees was Jessica Phoenix, whose journey from riding in Durham Forest and on the Walker Track to competing for Canada, on the international stage, has made her one of the country’s best-known event athletes.

Phoenix has represented Canada at the Olympic Games and established an impressive career in equestrian sport. Unable to attend the ceremony because of competition commitments, Phoenix was represented by Julie Fitz-Gerald, who accepted the plaque on her behalf.

The ceremony also recognized Pat Higgins, in the community category, honouring decades of dedication to local initiatives, during his time as owner of Uxbridge Canadian Tire. Higgins’ induction adds to a year of recognition for his civic contributions, which also included receiving the King Charles III Coronation Medal, from Uxbridge MP Jennifer O’Connell.

Jack Ballinger was inducted in the leadership category, for his contributions to civic engagement, community projects, and mentorship, reflecting the important role local leadership plays in building a strong and connected township.

James “Jim” Campbell was recognized in the community category, for his contributions as a community builder and business supporter. His long-standing support of youth sports helped keep opportunities accessible for young athletes and their families.

John Cavers was also inducted in the community category, recognizing his lasting contributions to local life, volunteerism, and the preservation of Uxbridge’s community spirit. His work as a photographer, with the Uxbridge Cosmos newspaper, helped document the people, events, and stories which have shaped the township over the years.

The Class of 2026 also included the 1991-1995 Uxbridge No-Faults Midgets Baseball Team, sponsored by James Campbell Insurance.

The team’s successful run, during the mid-1990s, earned it a place among the community’s notable sporting achievements. Several players went on to earn baseball scholarships, in the United States, highlighting the talent developed through local sports programs and the Uxbridge Baseball Association.

The team’s induction also recognizes the coaches, sponsors, families, and volunteers whose support helps young athletes pursue opportunities beyond their hometown.

Together, this year’s inductees reflect the many ways people contribute to Uxbridge’s sporting heritage; from international competition and team success to the behind-the-scenes work of business owners, volunteers, and community leaders.

The Kinsmen Sports Wall of Fame serves as a lasting tribute to those achievements, preserving the stories of people and teams whose efforts have helped make sport an important part of community life.
