Lumberjacks extend winning streak to four games


DAN CEARNS The Standard The Port Perry Lumberjacks doubled up on the Lakefield Chiefs to extend their winning streak to four games. The team’s sole weekend game was held on Sunday, December 3rd, at Scugog Arena. Neither team was able to score in the first period, but the second period was full of scoring.

Four minutes into the second period, Mac Connelly scored his first goal as a Lumberjack, making it a 1-0 game. Two and a half minutes later, Tanner Bricknell extended the lead to 2-0 with a goal. Less than nine minutes into the frame, the Chiefs put the puck past goaltender Gavin Bradt to cut the lead to 2-1. But, ten and a half minutes in, Cameron Marshall capitalized on a

Lumberjack power play, restoring the two-goal lead. Three and a half minutes after that goal, the Chiefs would strike again, making it a 3-2 game. But before the period ended, Andrew Naccarato-Soule scored to give the Lumberjacks a 4-2 lead.

The game would remain that score until late in the third period. Nearly 16 minutes in, the Chiefs scored again. But, a minute later, Marshall scored his second goal of the game, making it a 5-3 score. Then, with only 35 seconds left on the clock, Marshall scored his hat trick goal. The Lumberjacks won the game 6-3. One Timers: - The next ‘Battle of North Durham’ is on Friday, December 8th, in Uxbridge at 7:45 p.m. against the Bruins. - On Sunday, December 10th, the Lumberjacks will host the Little Britain Merchants at Scugog Arena. This will be the team’s ‘Pink in the Rink’ game, where proceeds will go towards the Canadian Cancer Society. There will also be a number of raffle prizes. That game starts at 2:25 p.m. - The Lumberjacks currently sit in fourth place in the Orr division standings, with 11 wins, nine regulation time losses, and one overtime loss.
