SCUGOG: For a second straight winter season, the Lake Scugog Pond Hockey Tournament has been cancelled.

The decision was announced on the tournament’s Facebook page, on Friday, February 2nd. The tournament had been scheduled to be held, on Saturday, February 10th. This tournament usually features three-on-three hockey games with no goalies. It supports Big Brothers, Big Sisters of North Durham and The Ontario Volunteer Emergency Response Team (OVERT). OVERT is a group of volunteers who help communities in times of crisis, such as abductions, missing persons, and natural disasters.

“Unfortunately, due to the current conditions on Lake Scugog, we have made the decision to cancel the 2024 Tournament. We would like to sincerely thank everyone who signed up, to join us on the ice, and our amazing sponsors and partners, who dedicated their time and resources to make this possible,” the post explained.

The 2023 tournament had also been cancelled because of similar conditions on the local lake.

At the time, tournament organizers had cited the “current thickness of ice on Lake Scugog and the above normal temperatures.”
