SCUGOG: On Monday June 2nd, President and CEO of Lakeridge Health, Cynthia Davis delivered an update about the hospital to the Scugog Council.
Mrs. Davis started the presentation with information concerning a new hospital for the Region of Durham. In August 2024, Lakeridge Health was approved for a $10 million planning grant, to advance Capital redevelopment for Lakeridge Health.
“Planning to advance a new hospital for Durham Region which will be located in north Whitby,” Mrs. Davis said, “We were also given planning for a post-acute, complex care, rehab centre in Pickering.”
Lakeridge Health has a five-year accessibility plan which started in 2023 and ends in 2028. This is an important step in their IDEAA [Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Anti-Racism] efforts, to remove obstacles for hospital faculty and patients, at Lakeridge Health. Mrs. Davis shared how Lakeridge Health resolved accessibility issues, in addition to collaborating with many community members in Durham Region.
Mrs. Davis also delivered information regarding the Queen's-Lakeridge Health MD [Doctor of Medicine] Family Medicine Program.
“We're also entering, now, our third year for our family medicine program, in partnership with Queen's University,” Mrs. Davis said, “So it's hard to believe, in September, we'll have our third year of students coming into that program.”
