Wow, the end of October and our first killer frost early Sunday morning. We are being encouraged to check out the full moon on November 5th, this being the full moon, Beaver, so called because this is the time they prepare their winter home. It is also another super moon, brightly shining down on us.
We send 65th wedding anniversary wishes to John and Florence Weirsma of Blythe, who lived here on Reach Rd, Epsom, for several years. Wendy Evans Meek and Beth Evans Wilson enjoyed celebrating with them and their Family too.
The Otter Greenhouse is closed for the season, and last Saturday, October 18th, the wedding of Jake and bride Darci was celebrated with family and friends within. Best wishes from this community for a lifetime of happiness together.
Keith and I had the pleasure of lunching with Marilyn and Karen Searle, cousins from Lindsay, this past Wednesday. A time to reminisce at Haugens.
Durham’s Agriculture Community celebrated at a beautiful gala on Thursday evening at Royal Ashburn Golf Club. It was an evening to recognize the amazing work of farmers and all who support farming in Durham. The evening emcees were sisters Erika and Jamie Wilson. The Family Farm Award was presented to The Bibb Family, High Hope Farm, the Spirit of Agriculture Award to Robert Larmer, and the Leadership Award to Joel Shillings. Congratulations, these honours don’t come easy.
Thanks to the organizing committee for a wonderful evening.
This past week, the wider community was saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Bruce Smith, a 56-year employee of Utica Farm Equipment. Visitation Thursday and Funeral service from Low and Low Friday was followed by a huge Green tractor and truck parade, starting from the Smith Farm down the 4th to Sandford cemetery and on to the Moore farm, where a large reception was prepared for the many friends of Bruce, his Sons Brian and Les, and their families, wife Tanis, and family. So many wonderful tributes were shared as the community said their goodbyes.
A date to keep in mind. The Directors of Canadian Foodgrains Bank have set a meeting at Epsom church for Monday, December 1st, at 10 a.m., to meet the community. All are welcome.
Come to worship at Epsom church, at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, November 2nd, with fellowship to follow.
