EPSOM & UTICA by Faye Ashton

The community sends sincere sympathy to Donna and Ed Eckhardt and Family on the passing of Donna’s mother Laverne Porter on Sunday, August 16th, at Hanover, Ontario. A visitation was held on Thursday, and a service to celebrate Laverne’s life was held on Friday. Her family here and friends in Hanover will miss this loving mother, grandmother, and Great grandmother. A piece of information I missed back in May: Congratulations to North Durham Warriors Atom AA team on being named OMHA Co-Champions. Team members from the area are Cayne Goulet (Utica defenceman), Walker Phoenix (Greenbank, Goalie), and Levi Scott (Epsom, centreman). Coaches shared the news that they were being awarded the coveted “Red Hats” as co-champions. Gary Roberts NHL legend was part of the coaching unit for these young players. Congratulations to Naomi Bristow and Nicholas Wilcox on their Marriage this weekend. Naomi has shared her singing talent several times in neighbouring communities, and she is so special. Happy birthday to Nancy Skelding, now residing at Roseglen Village Retirement Home, Port Hope. Nancy was so active in our community and I know we all want to wish her the best birthday ever. Birthday and Anniversary wishes to all in our community for the month of August. The “For Sale” sign finally went up at Epsom School right at the time the school boards are looking for more space for children. This school has formed and educated the lives of so many people in this and surrounding communities. It’s sad that a significant part of our heritage in Epsom is for sale. Thank you to Greenbank-Seagrave and minister Stephanie for sharing their Sunday message with the Epsom-Utica congregation. Congratulations to Durham M.P. Erin O’Toole who received the most votes in the Conservative leadership race to become Conservative leader….What a monumental job he is undertaking.
