Epsom & Utica August 31

by Faye Ashton August has left many of us with uncertain feelings about the month. We always need rain for growing, but every day or every other seems more than we know how to handle. Since the weather report is for four days without rain, we noticed on our way to Omeeme to get a broken combine belt the farmers all got to work and got their 2nd or third cut of hay felled; O' what a summer!

Congratulations, a beautiful wedding took place at Grey Silo Lavender Farm on Saturday, August 12th, when Derek Elliott and Holly Allyson became husband and wife. It was special for the family for Derek to come back to the area of his birth for this awesome day. Derek is the son of Kim Brown and Keith Ellicot.

Congratulations to Mr. And Mrs. Mark Johnson as they became husband and wife this past Friday evening. Time slips away! It seems, not too long ago, Mark's Mom shared with our grandsons Mark's outgrown clothes. I guess it must be a bit longer than I remember.

The community sends condolences to Josh and Angela Malcolm and the Family on the recent passing of Josh's grandfather John Wolters. The community sends thanks for the years he served on Scugog Council.

We are very sad to report the accident which took the life of our long-time Epsom friend and neighbour, Art Powell, on Sunday morning. Art worked at General Motors in the tool and dye department. He has helped many a neighbour repair machinery parts. Art bought Art Hamilton's thrashing machine, tractor and model T Ford, which he took to fairs and antique shows. This made him well-known throughout a wide area of Ontario. We will all miss you, Art, and our community sends our deepest sympathy to your wife, Elinore, daughter Debby, son Jimmy and Families.

Glen Major church service this Sunday, at 7 p.m. You will receive a warm welcome from this beautiful community.

The 'mayor' has left the community, and we will all be lost without her. Dar (Darlene Christie) has moved to the big town of Port Perry and will certainly liven up the apartment building she now resides in. Dar, you have always been our community visitor from the time you were a little one, and we all hope that won't change. Our community wishes you much happiness in your new home.

A new little baby boy, Brody, arrived on Medd Road, born on Sunday, August 13th, to Kaitlin and Jack. Congratulations and best wishes for a lifetime of firsts and the many exciting experiences which await you.

Epsom-Utica United Church resumes regular church services on September 17th, at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Edith Ann conducting. Come and worship together.
