DARRYL KNIGHT The Standard
The Bear Den beckons for the Uxbridge Bruins following a busy weekend, which saw the team hit the road for games in Keswick, Port Perry, and Lakefield.
On Friday, January 12th, the Bruins will play host to the Little Britain Merchants, with the action getting underway at 7:45 p.m.
This past Friday night saw the Bruins in Keswick squaring off with the Georgina Ice in a crucial match-up, with Uxbridge entering the game third in the Orr Division standings, three points behind Georgina.
A shorthanded goal by Quinn Meek with just 36 seconds to play in the first period gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead. However, that would be all the scoring the Bruins would muster on the evening, as the Ice lit the lamp four consecutive times to take a 4-1 win.
On Sunday afternoon, the Bruins were back on the road as they made the westbound trek on Reach Road to Scugog Arena for a matinee match-up against the Port Perry Lumberjacks.
The Lumberjacks would score in the first and second periods to take a 2-0 lead into the final frame.
Then, just over a minute into the third period, the home side scored to swell the Port Perry lead to 3-0. The Bruins would bounce back late in the game, with Owen Shier scoring to break up the shutout bid. Then, with just over three minutes to play, Meek drew Uxbridge to within one, setting up a frantic finish to the action which saw several sensational scoring chances.
However, none could find the back of the net, and the Lumberjacks escaped with the victory to even the season series in the Battle of North Durham.
