BLACKSTOCK by Tammy Phillips
Well, after two years of few submissions for this column, suddenly I was inundated. Exciting indeed to see the return of several events.
On Friday, April 29th, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Durham East 4-H is hosting an Open House and Sign Up Night at the Tyrone Community Centre, 2716 Concession Road 7, in Tyrone.
Information will be available for new members and families. Meet the leaders of clubs set to run in 2022 catering to youth, ages 6-21. For more information, please e-mail:
On Wednesday, May 11th, at 6:30 p.m., a Blackstock Minor League Hockey (BMLH) meeting has been scheduled to hold elections for the BMHL Executive at the Blackstock Recreation Complex Meeting Room. Please enter from the parking lot doors.
It is pivotal for the community to be aware that if BMLH is not able to elect and fill the executive positions for the 2022-2023 seasons, the league will not be able to run. Please consider volunteering to keep this community league running.
On Saturday, May 28th, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., The Blackstock-Nestleton United Church is hosting a perennial plant sale in the Church Parking Lot. This is a great opportunity to add a splash of colour to your gardens. Plant donations are appreciated. If you have plants to donate, please contact Jan Byers at 905-986-5112.
On Saturday, June 4th, with a 10:00 a.m shotgun start, Cartwright Sports & Recreation Inc. will host its annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser at Sunnybrae Golf Course, Prince Albert
Registration starts at 9 a.m. The cost is $125 per player. Fees include 18 holes, golf & cart, on-course contests, morning muffin/beverage, BBQ ‘to-go’ lunch during the round and appetizers during “Happy Hour” gathering after the tournament.
The organization is seeking hole sponsors ($100) and foursomes for this fun community event.
All proceeds will go towards future development and upgrades to Cartwright Fields sports park, trails and facilities in Nestleton. Registration is filling up fast, so please act quickly.
Advance payments are required for golf fees, sponsorships, and donations can be eTransferred to:

The Blackstock Fair is returning after a 2-year hiatus due to Covid and will be held on Saturday, August 27th, followed by the always exciting Demolition Derby. Please save the dates and plan on supporting these local events.
