On Sunday December 1st, the Blackstock Co-op Nursery School (BCNS) hosted its annual Breakfast with Santa & Friends fundraiser at the Blackstock Recreation Centre. The morning included a pancake breakfast, a children’s colouring and letters to Santa table, and an opportunity to have photos taken with Santa himself, courtesy of Rachel Callan Photography. Despite the heavy snowfall, approximately 400 people attended. With assistance from the school’s parents and run by the Blackstock Lions Club on the day of, the book and bake sale was close to sold out. The tree raffle and silent auction were as popular and busy as ever. Breakfast with Santa & Friends is the largest annual fundraiser for BCNS, a non-profit organization committed to providing a positive learning experience for children in the Blackstock and surrounding area for over 40 years. Play-based programs introduce children to a variety of learning experiences, enabling them to develop socially, emotionally, cognitively and physically. Casey VanSchagen came in second. Pat Currie was third. Ellen Gibson came in fourth. Audrey Mahaffey finished in fifth place. Heidi Kreig and Minnie Asling tied for the mid score. Blackstock Euchre is held every Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m., except holidays, at the Blackstock United Church Hall. Everyone is welcome.
