Before proceeding, I must make a clarification. A week or so ago, I mentioned Joan and Rod Sine and the contribution they made to Zephyr Church. I said they had resigned their positions before moving. Unfortunately, some people, especially in Rod's case, took that to mean some nefarious reason. Of course, they retired, like most people do, Rod, after a lengthy and illustrious career in policing, and are now a professor at Seneca College. My apologies for any misunderstanding!

There are numerous birthday celebrations this week, starting with Betty Noble Johnson, who was born and raised nearby. Also, best wishes go to Lisa Boyce, even though she and her husband moved away. We miss them! Birthday greetings go out to Ron Stewart, walking with Doris and enjoying grandkids, my cuz Laura Weir Ross who keeps on trekking and enjoying life, Bark Peck checking on Tony and her growing grands, LeeAnn Ball who like many these day is feeling an empty house, and Catherine Jane Smalley who has been making waves in the world for a number of years now. Birthday wishes also to Anne Irvine and to all these other great people! Anniversary wishes go out to Keith and Sharon Doucette, who have been married 43 years and are enjoying their two grandbabies very much. Best wishes also to Brandon and Jeanette (Herrema) Ehinger, who have been married for eight years already!

Amidst the happiness seems to be a lot of sadness. The Uxbridge Baptist church held a large crowd on Wednesday as friends and family gathered to remember the life of Debbie Wilson, the wife of Steven. The beautiful music was composed by her sister-in-law, Jennifer. Wilson. Burial was at Foster, where Helen Herrema was also interred. News also came of the passing of Wes Botham, who came to Zephyr Church. Kathy Pratt Holdsworth also passed away. Kathy was very involved in the Lucy Maud squad as well as numerous other organizations. I always enjoyed my few conversations with her. Now, too, comes word of the passing of Alan Wells, 85. Alan has a long list of accomplishments in various fields, one of which was the Uxbridge Council. Before that, he had been COA for York Region and an executive on a host of nature-oriented groups. He was also a founding member of the North Durham Nature group. Our deepest sympathies to his wife, Anne, and his several children and grandchildren! In addition to our local people, many also mourn the passing of actor Graham Greene. Graham made his home in this area for several years and was well-known to many for his friendliness and approachability. Although I don’t know anyone from here, this icon of the hockey world is also mourned for his career in law, and beyond that, for his ice capades! He was only 78!

Horseshoes continues at the museum every Tuesday evening, beginning at 5 pm. Last week, there were 15 in attendance. Trophy night is coming! On Wednesday, September 10th, renowned Mark Cullen will be the special speaker at the Uxbridge Horticultural Group. Non-members are asked to pay $20, after which they become members. Doors open at 7 p.m. On September 12th, at the Museum, Taste of Heritage by Chef Alex. Two conflicting events on the 18th. At the Uxbridge Genealogical group at the library, Catherine Wilson, Director of Rural Diary Archaeology at the University of Guelph, discussed cooperative work, such as barn raising. The October meeting celebrates the 25th anniversary of the group with a special meeting! 7 p.m. The other is a talk at the museum entitled "Winnie the Pooh," which is about a little bear. On Friday, September 12th, at the Foster, a very special treat awaits as the York Harmony Chorus, a group of ladies who bring some beautiful barbershop harmony. Don’t miss it! Doors open at 7 p.m., with the concert starting at 7:30. Suggested donation $10. September 13th, another Leaskdale Loop to enjoy! Also on Friday, September 12th, Jazz at Leaskdale LMM Society, 7:30 p.m., featuring Tom Baker, James Warburton, and Larra Skye! Coming on Friday, September 25th, the long-awaited Bethesda WI Fashion Show, including dessert. Fashions from Woods Clothing and Threads Boutique. Tickets: $25. Call to reserve!

Church is at Sandford was led by Rev. Li. Next week, Adele Boy LLWL will lead. All welcome at 10 a.m.

Late news! Randy Wilson has been awarded two more Emmys in Hollywood! Big congratulations!
