Work begins at Beaverton’s new Mill Gate Dog Park

BROCK: After a long wait, construction of Beaverton’s new Mill Gate Dog Park is set to get underway this week.

Brock Township recently announced the construction was set to begin on Monday, August 24th, as crews install fencing and posts, at the long-anticipated community dog park. The work is expected to be completed by the end of August, weather and site conditions permitting.

The new facility will provide dedicated, fenced spaces for dogs of different sizes, giving local residents a safe and accessible place to exercise and socialize their pets.

The main fenced area for large dogs will encompass approximately 26,650 square feet, while a separate area for small dogs will provide approximately 2,600 square feet.

Both entrances to the park will feature double-capture gates, an added safety feature, designed to provide an additional barrier between the fenced area and the surrounding space.

“The Mill Gate Dog Park has been a long-anticipated project, and it’s exciting to finally see construction getting underway,” Mayor Jubb said. “This will provide residents and their dogs with a dedicated space to get outside, exercise, and enjoy the community.”

“Our parks are important gathering places for residents, and the dog park will add another opportunity for people to connect with their neighbours, while giving their pets a place to run and play,” Mayor Jubb added.

Once the fencing and posts have been installed, additional amenities will be added to the park. Plans call for benches, picnic tables, and waste receptacles, to be installed following completion of the initial construction work.

Brock Township officials are asking residents to exercise caution around the park area, while construction is underway. Community members are also being asked to be patient and cooperate with crews as the work progresses.

For local dog owners, the project marks the beginning of the final stage in bringing a dedicated off-leash recreation area to Beaverton.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience as we get this project completed,” stated Mayor Jubb. “We know residents have been looking forward to having this space, and we’re pleased to be moving ahead.”
