UXBRIDGE: The Uxbridge fire department is accepting applications for volunteer, part-time firefighters. They are also hosting an information session, on Wednesday, January 19th, 2022, at 7 p.m.
According to the assistant fire chief, Mike MacDonald, the fire department sends this message to the community when they need new recruits. For example, if someone retires from a position, the fire department notifies the public and accepts applications.
“We just try to make sure we are always refilling our ranks and staying at our full-staffing,” explained Assistant Chief MacDonald.
They are accepting applications from people ages 18 and over. An information session will be held online. You can also join the session over the phone. The phone numbers are listed on the Township of Uxbridge’s website.

There is a list of minimum requirements interested persons must meet, within the application for a part-time firefighter position.
These qualifications include having an Ontario Secondary School Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent. You must also be available to respond in a timely fashion, including on weekends and holidays. There is also a list of additional preferences. You don’t need to meet these preferences in order to be hired.
Additional preferences include post-secondary education, work experience and previous firefighting or emergency service experience. For a complete list of additional preferences, please read the full application on the Township of Uxbridge’s website.
Upon applying, you will need to provide the Uxbridge Fire Department with some required documentation. The documentation includes: a valid medical and fitness assessment, a current immunization record, a police background, and a driver’s license. In addition to being online, there are applications available at the Uxbridge Fire station, located at: Uxbridge Fire Department, 301 Brock Street West, Uxbridge, Ontario.
