Uxbridge Bruins melt the Ice in Georgina

DARRYL KNIGHT The Standard

UXBRIDGE: The Uxbridge Bruins earned another weekend split in Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL) Orr Division action, rolling past Georgina 11 to 5 before being shut out 3 to 0 by the Little Britain Merchants. In their lone Friday night matchup away from the Bear Den on Friday, December 6th, the Bruins scored early and often. Goals by Josh Cammalleri, Daniel Giorgio and Cameron Moffitt gave the Bruins an early 3 to 0 lead in a busy first period for the scorekeeper in Keswick. Before the horn sounded after 20 minutes of action, the Bruins held a 6 to 2 advantage with Justin Bennett scoring, and Toby Cooper netting a pair of short handed goals. Moffitt added Uxbridge’s third short handed goal of the evening less than a minute into the second period. Then, less than a minute after that; Cammalleri scored his second of the night. The Ice and Bruins would trade goals before the end of the middle frame, with Spencer Mazakian giving Uxbridge a commanding 9 to 3 lead heading into the third period. The final frame saw more scoring with each slide slipping a pair of pucks past the goalie. Adam Bilyea and Adam Turner rounded out the scoring for the Bruins. Noah Acciaccaferri stopped 39 shots to pick up his first win for Uxbridge, since being acquired in a recent trade with the Clarington Eagles. There was no time for rest for the boys in black and yellow however, as the Bruins made the trek to one of the most hostile environments in the PJHL on Saturday night: the cozy confines of Little Britain Memorial Community Arena. In a polar opposite of the night before, the Bruins were unable to solve Merchants goalie Oliver Webster, as he stopped all 33 shots fired at him by the visiting side in a 3 to 0 shut out win for Little Britain. Mac West, Peter Kerr and Tyler Watson scored for the Merchants.

Bear Necessities: – The Bruins wrapped up a busy stretch on Tuesday night, after The Standard’s press deadline, with a game in Lakefield against the Chiefs. – On Friday, December 13th, the Bruins return to the Bear Den for a 7:45 p.m. matchup against the Clarington Eagles.
