Uxbridge Bruins eliminated from PJHL playoffs

DARRYL KNIGHT The Standard

The Uxbridge Bruins’ decades-long quest for a provincial championship will have to wait at least another year after the team was swept in four games by the Georgina Ice in the Orr Division semifinals.

Uxbridge’s season came to a close on Saturday, March 16th at the Bear Den, with a 6-3 loss in Game 4 of the best-of-seven series.

Well rested coming into the series after a first-round bye by virtue of their third-place finish in the regular season standings, the Bruins battled in every game but ultimately came up short against the second-place club from Georgina.

Saturday’s game appeared to have all the makings of a classic Bruins comeback win, but they simply ran out of time and scoring chances. The Ice held a 3-0 lead after the first period and would push their advantage to 4-0 through the second period. Finally, in the third period, with their backs against the wall, the Bruins showed their offensive skills with a pair of goals from Noah Button and a single from Jack Davis cutting the Georgina lead to a single goal with just over 10 minutes to play in the game. However, that would be as close as the home side would get, as the Ice added two more goals to escape with the win, and sweep the series.
