UXBRIDGE: Drivers in the Township of Uxbridge are being advised of a significant upcoming road closure on Zephyr Road as Durham Region prepares to begin a major reconstruction project this summer.
The Region of Durham says Zephyr Road (Regional Road 13) will be fully closed between Concession Road 3 and Concession Road 4, starting July 13th, with the closure expected to remain in place until October 7th.
Following the full closure, lane restrictions will continue through the winter months and are expected to remain until December 2026. Work will then pause during the winter season, with construction scheduled to resume in May 2027 for final paving. Officials noted weather conditions may affect the overall timeline.
The project is necessary for the safe reconstruction of the roadway and will include detour routes to redirect traffic around the construction zone. Local access for residents and properties within the affected area will be maintained throughout the project.
Despite the disruption, officials emphasize businesses in the area will remain open during construction. The Region has also provided guidance to local businesses on managing and minimizing the impact of construction through its “Open for Business” resources.
Motorists are being urged to plan ahead, obey all posted signage, and use caution when travelling near construction zones to ensure the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and road crews.
More information on the project, including updates and detour details, is available through the Region’s Works Projects page at Durham Region Works Projects, while live construction and traffic updates can be found on the Region’s interactive map at Durham TrafficWatch.
