Township receives federal funding for Elgin Park improvements

UXBRIDGE: On Wednesday, July 20th, MP Jennifer O’Connell announced the Township would receive $747,750.00 in funding, through the Canada Community Revitalization Fund, to support improvements being made to Elgin Park.

The grant will be used to fund a series of improvements to the park, which will include the following: Replacement of the existing playground with a new inclusive and accessible playground; Winterization of public washrooms, for year-round use; Installation of additional lighting and power infrastructure along pathways, for improved safety and functionality; Installation of a pathway of inclusion, to embrace and recognize diversity in our community; and Installation of a new shade pavilion.

The Township of Uxbridge and the Uxbridge Lions Club are contributing additional funding to support improvements to the park.

“This is a really great news story for the Township and our marquee park,” says Mayor Dave Barton. “Thank you, MP O’Connell, for your support and [for] sharing this exciting announcement with us. This funding means the Optimists can extend their holiday light display. It provides four-season public washrooms for our downtown visitors. It means the Lions Club can build a top-notch accessible playground. It improves safety, by adding lighting at the Elgin Park gate. This grant helps us recognize the diversity of our community. In short, it will help our community bounce back from COVID and offer great experiences [which] support our economic and social health. Thank you: we are very grateful to receive this grant. It means a lot for our community.”

Construction on the park is expected to begin in mid-September.
