April 23rd, 2022! This is the largest consignor charity event in Scugog, and the committee is excited to be able to host this event again, after two long years of cancellations due to COVID-19. Since the 1990’s, this sale has had a focus on helping local charities and is run completely on a volunteer basis by local moms.
“Our sale benefits not only our community, but surrounding communities in need. Many families rely on our sale to shop local, and purchase good quality used clothing and toys for their children and grandchildren,” explained Lonya Reid, one of the longest standing committee members, “We also provide an opportunity for families to consign their items, clearing out their toys and closets, while at the same time supporting a local organization.”
“I was amazed at how many items were designer or still had price tags on them when I went to my first sale,” added committee member Stephanie Herrera, “The next year I joined as a consignor and then, as a committee member immediately after, when I realized all the proceeds go to charity.” The Kids Clothing and Toy sale has been supporting charities such as the local food bank and, for the past four years, Big Brothers and Sisters of North Durham. Lonya Reid explained how the sale is unique: “We organize all the items by gender and size, so it’s easier for our shoppers to navigate the sale. Our consignors love it because they can drop off their items the evening before, then pick up the remaining items after the sale.” There are sections for shoes, books, maternity clothing, baby items, videos, games, and large play items along with the clothing and toys. The committee is also excited to see the community come together in support of the Big Brothers and Sisters of North Durham, including their faithful sponsors Vos’ Independent and Domino’s Pizza.

The sale is held at the Scugog Community Centre, 1655 Reach Street, in Port Perry, from 9 a.m. to noon with an admission of $1 and a priority shop at 8 a.m. for $5, all of which goes directly to the charity. This is a cash only event and everyone is encouraged to bring lots of reusable shopping bags.
