The Lindsay Agricultural Society Presents 2021 Merry & Bright Festival at the LEX Grounds

KAWARTHA LAKES: The Lindsay Agricultural Society (LAS) is pleased to announce the 2021 “Merry & Bright Festival” opened December 9th. The Merry & Bright Festival runs from December 9th to 12th and 16th to 23rd from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The drive-through festival of lights is a joint fundraiser for the Lindsay Agricultural Society, the Kawartha Food Source, Lindsay Lions Club, the Lindsay and District Curling Club, and Heritage Christian School, and the United Way for the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Businesses, community groups, farms, and community members have been hard at work on the Lindsay Exhibition (LEX) Grounds this week, putting finishing touches on their light displays. The display theme this year is “Favourite Christmas Movie”, and visitors are sure to be impressed by the creativity and effort that is evident in more than 30 displays that will illuminate the LEX Grounds over the next two weeks The Merry & Bright Festival opening ceremony was held December 8th, 2021 at the Commonwell Exhibition Building. LAS President Lois Batty thanked the partner organizations for their contributions and expressed her gratitude to everyone who entered a display this year.

She explained the importance of this fundraiser for all of the partner organizations and invited the community to drive through the Festival to experience the creative displays. Andrew Weston brought greetings from MP Jamie Schmale’s office, and Deputy Mayor Pat O’Reilly brought greetings from the Mayor’s office. Representatives from the Kawartha Food Source, Lindsay Lions Club, the Lindsay and District Curling Club, and Heritage Christian School, and the United Way for the City of Kawartha Lakes were present for the ceremony.

About the Lindsay Agricultural Society The Lindsay Agricultural Society (LAS) is a federally registered charity and governed by a volunteer board of directors. The LAS was established to improve agricultural knowledge within the community and create opportunities for dialogue between the agricultural community and the residents of the Kawartha Lakes. The mission of the LAS is “To showcase the vibrant agricultural industry in the Kawartha Lakes while enriching the life of the community through the Lindsay Exhibition, events, entertainment, and volunteerism.” The Lindsay Exhibition (LEX) is the annual agricultural fair hosted by the Lindsay Agricultural Society with the help of over 300 volunteers. Attendance averages over 45,000 visitors. The LEX Grounds located at the south end of Angeline Street. are owned by the Lindsay Agricultural Society. The LEX Grounds host over 40 events each year in addition to the Lindsay Exhibition, drawing over 100,000 visitors annually. 2021 marked the 167th Lindsay Exhibition, held under COVID-19 safe protocols.
