Scugog residents encouraged to vote for Regional Chair, trustee positions

DAN CEARNS, The Standard

SCUGOG: Despite the majority of next term’s Scugog council having been acclaimed, residents of the Township are still being encouraged to vote in the municipal election this October.

“Eligible electors are encouraged to vote in October, using the new option of internet voting or in person by paper ballot. While there are a number of acclaimed positions locally, all eligible electors will have an opportunity to vote for the Regional Chair position, as well as the school board trustee. Please still take a minute to vote,” Scugog clerk Becky Jamieson stressed, at a recent meeting.

There are four candidates for the Durham Regional Chairperson position. These include incumbent John Henry, Kurdil-Telt Patch, Peter Neal and Laurie Blaind Mackie.

There are also two school board trustee races in North Durham. Seeking the Durham District School Board trustee position are Carolyn Morton and Gordon Baxter. The Durham Catholic District School Board trustee race is between Richard Damianopoulos and Tim Robins.

The only race for a Township seat is in Ward 5, with Ivo Finotti, Imran (Louie) Mohammad and Terry Coyne campaigning for that job. The winner of this race will join acclaimed candidates Wilma Wotten, Robert Rock, Janna Guido, Ian McDougall, Harold Wright and David Leroy to form the next Scugog council.
