Roar by the Shores poker run being held this month
DAN CEARNS, The Standard
SCUGOG: Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Roar By the Shores car show organizers are adapting this year’s event into a poker run.
The event will be held on Sunday, June 27th. Check-in time will run from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the event’s starting point, the Medical Associates of Port Perry on Paxton Street.
Organizer Dave Roulston explained how the poker run event works.
“[The participants] show their reservation. They get an I.D. number with us [which confirms] they attended [and] then they get card number one. Then they go to pit stop two, [they] check-in and [receive] poker card number two. When they get to the fifth stop, at Canadian Tire, the grand finale pit stop, they hand in their five cards with their I.D. number, and the best poker hand wins a prize. The runner-up poker hand [also] wins a prize, and the third [placed participant] wins a prize.”
Every participant will also be entered into a draw for a Grand Prize.
The run will go from the Medical Associates of Port Perry to the Port Perry Gus Brown Buick GMC dealership and then to Willowtree Farm. The final two stops will be at Cartwright Fields and Canadian Tire Port Perry.
“Without all five of those locations, this wouldn’t happen,” Mr. Roulston stressed.
This poker run is raising funds for the Port Perry Hospital Foundation’s ‘Here for You’ campaign, which is fundraising for the purchase of a C.T. scanner. Organizers are hoping to see between 80 and 100 classic vehicles participating.
“It’s all about the community and how important this scanner is. It’s going to save a lot of lives and help us all,” Mr. Roulston stated. The cost to register for the poker run is $20 per car. Ticketing for the event is being done through Eventbrite. For more information on how to register, go online to www.roarbytheshoresportperry.com.
