Penalties proved to be costly for the Port Perry Lumberjacks in their latest game against the Little Britain Merchants.
After two losses to start the season, the Lumberjacks hosted the Merchants at Scugog Arena on Sunday, September 22nd.
The Lumberjacks had the majority of possession of the puck early in the game, putting the first six shots on goal. Over 15 minutes into the period, Kyle Robillard dragged the puck past a defender and put the puck into the side of the net to make it a 1-0 game for the Lumberjacks.
Then, less than seven minutes into the second period, Andrew Naccarato-Soule put the puck through the legs of the Little Britain goaltender, extending the lead to 2-0. One hundred seven seconds later, the Merchants were able to bang the puck into the net, cutting the lead to 2-1. With just 39 seconds remaining in the period, the Merchants capitalized on a five-on-three power play, tying the game 2-2.
The Merchants would strike for two more power-play goals in the third period, making it a 4-2 game. And, with a little over one minute left in the game, the Merchants would score again, defeating the Lumberjacks 5-2.
One Timers: - The Lumberjacks have a busy upcoming schedule. This Thursday, September 26th, they will visit Caledon to face the Golden Hawks. That game will begin at 7:30 p.m.On Saturday, September 28th, the Lumberjacks will travel to Schomberg to face the Cougars. The game will start at 6 p.m.The Lumberjacks’ next home game will be Sunday, September 29th, at Scugog Arena. They will host their biggest rival, the Uxbridge Bruins, and the game will begin at 2:25 p.m.
