DURHAM/KAWARTHA LAKES: The Ontario government is looking to amend the license plate renewal system, to make re-registration automatic.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced the idea during a press conference, on Tuesday, February 13th.

“We’re getting rid of [the manual registration] totally. We did the first step, getting rid of your sticker. Now, we’re getting rid of the re-registration. It will be automatically re-registered, so people won’t have to worry about that at all,” Premier Ford said.

While he didn’t give an official date for the change to come into effect, Premier Ford stated, it would be “very soon, extremely soon.”

“It will be legislated when we get back,” the Premier added.

The Ontario government previously removed license plate renewal fees and the requirement to have a license plate sticker for passenger vehicles, light-duty trucks, motorcycles and mopeds in February 2022.
