CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES & EMERGENCY SERVICES

Adult Correctional Facilities

Effective March 13, 2020 and until further notice, intermittent inmates who serve time on the weekends will be required to attend their reporting facility, where they will be given a temporary absence from custody and permitted to return home. Intermittent inmates have already been deemed low-risk by the courts and remain in the community Monday to Friday to live and work.

In addition, we are temporarily suspending personal visits within our adult correctional facilities across the province. This suspension will come into effect on March 14, 2020 and remain until further notice. Professional visits including legal counsel will continue.

DDSB March Board Meeting

The previously scheduled March 23, 2020 Board Meeting of the Durham District School Board (DDSB) is cancelled as part of the DDSB’s COVID-19/Coronavirus containment initiatives.

Sunderland Regional Early Learning and Child Care Centres (ELCC)

Effective immediately, all EarlyON programs will be closed until Monday, April 6.

The Ontario Ministry of Health has recommended the suspension of all large events and public gatherings of more than 250 people. Residents should recognize the risk of attending public gatherings and to practice social distancing as much as possible. This means that residents should stay home when possible, and avoid crowds, to help prevent the spread of germs and illness.

Let’s hope that Covid-19 has been controlled by then as all of us that play and look forward to this event in our community will need something like this!

Durham Region’s Long-Term Care Homes

(Hillsdale Estates, Hillsdale Terraces, Fairview Lodge and Lakeview Manor)

Visiting is now restricted to essential visitors only. Essential visitors are those who have a loved one who is dying or very ill. No other visitors are permitted to enter the premises, including volunteers, entertainers and church groups. Residents are encouraged to keep in touch with loved ones by phone or other technologies wherever possible. Essential visitors will be actively screened as they enter the premises, for the safety of facility staff and residents. For the safety of residents and essential visitors, all Long-Term Care staff who have travelled outside Canada are required to self-isolate for 14 days before returning to work.

Lakeridge Health

Lakeridge Health is limiting visitors to their hospital. Only the most vulnerable patients will be allowed one visitor per day, provided they pass the screening process.

Durham Region Transit (DRT) has announced some service modifications

To reflect reduced ridership demands and support social distancing. Notably, customers will board buses using the rear doors only (except those customers with mobility aides, or otherwise requiring use of a ramp); and no fare payment will be required for any customer.

The Region of Durham has suspended all water and sewer bill

Late payment charges, collection notifications and water shut-offs for non-payment. The Region will also offer enhanced payment flexibility for customers unable to pay their water and sewer bill on time.

Durham Region Waste Management

Oshawa and Scugog are back starting on Tuesday, May 5. The facilities will be open for extended hours from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays only from the first Tuesday in May until the first Tuesday in October.

Ontario Parks

In response to Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health’s recommendation to immediately suspend large events and public gatherings of over 250 people, Ontario Parks has cancelled all planned events until further notice. All public Ontario Parks buildings, such as visitor centres, will be closed as well.

Outdoor recreational opportunities including camping and day use will still be available at operating parks.

Ontario Parks will monitor developments and reassess on April 1, 2020 and April 15, 2020.
