BROCK: The Township is bringing the wonder of cinema back to local parks, as Outdoor Movie Nights make a fun-filled return, for summer 2025. With screenings planned in Sunderland, Cannington, and Beaverton, families and residents of all ages can look forward to cozy evenings under the stars, with friends, popcorn, and community spirit.

“These movie nights are something the whole community looks forward to,” said Regional Councillor Mike Jubb. “They bring people together in a relaxed and family-friendly environment, and we’re thrilled to be offering them again this year.”

Residents are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs and enjoy popular family films, perfect for all ages. This year, the Township is handing the director’s chair over to the public, inviting community members to vote for the movies they want to see, on the Township’s Facebook page.

“It’s really exciting to give the community a voice, in choosing what we screen,” Councillor Jubb added. “It makes the experience more personal and engaging, and I think it shows how much we value input from our residents.”

Outdoor Movie Nights will kick off on May 30th, at the Sunderland Memorial Arena, followed by a screening at the Rick MacLeish Memorial Community Centre, on June 27th, and another at the Foster Hewitt Memorial Community Centre, on August 22nd. More details, including movie titles, special activities, and food options, will be announced closer to the event dates. Residents are encouraged to check the Township’s website and event calendar for updates.

In a new addition for 2025, the Township also plans to extend the movie program into the autumn and winter, with indoor screenings and seasonal events.

“These aren’t just summer events anymore,” said Councillor Jubb. “We’re looking at ways to keep the community connected year-round, with indoor movie nights and other creative ideas.”

Local businesses and organizations interested in supporting the program are invited to become event partners or sponsors. For more information, contact recreation@brock.ca.

“This is a great opportunity to get involved, support your community, and be part of something really special,” said Councillor Jubb. “It’s going to be a great season of movies in the park.”
