Have aches and pains beyond normal? Do you find it hard to sleep? Maybe you have stomach pain and have trouble going to the bathroom. No, you’re not facing some life-altering health issue, but there is something going on. What is it? STRESS.
People tend to search for physical reasons for why these physical symptoms are occurring. At the top of my list of causes, stress is number one. It has such a distinct effect on both your physical and mental well-being, yet people often forget to check it.
No sleep for the stressed
Stress releases cortisol into the system, which is known as the stress hormone. You are in a constant state of fight-or-flight.
It's hard to digest
Stressful situations trigger the release of hormones which can slow digestion. It can increase acid production and alter the gut's bacterial balance, leading to symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, bloating, diarrhea, and acid reflux.
Aches and Pains
The body’s stress response releases hormones, such as cortisol, which trigger an inflammatory response. Chronic stress can lead to prolonged inflammation, which exacerbates conditions like arthritis and causes joint swelling and pain.
Movement as Medicine
Exercise is an effective stress reliever because it helps reduce stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline while boosting mood-elevating endorphins.
Improves brain function:
It increases blood flow to the brain, which can help with clear thinking. You’ll notice improved concentration and a clearer mind.
Find an activity you enjoy:
Any form of exercise can help, from walking to lifting weights and dancing. The key is to find something you’ll stick with. Even a little exercise is beneficial. A 20 to 30-minute session can make a difference.
