The Port Perry Lumberjacks found success over the Thanksgiving weekend, winning back-to-back games against North Kawartha and Uxbridge.

The wins came after a 7-0 loss to the Orr division’s top team, the Clarington Eagles, on Thursday, October 5th.

The Lumberjacks opened their weekend action on Saturday, October 7th, in Apsley, against the North Kawartha Knights.

Just over a minute into the first period, Cameron Marshall scored the first goal of the game, to make it a 1-0 Port Perry lead. 12 and a half minutes later, Quinn Arnott put the puck in the net, extending the lead to 2-0.

The Lumberjacks continued to have success in the second period. Over three and a half minutes into that period, Kyle Bailey scored. 39 seconds later, Arnott scored his second goal of the game, making it a 4-0 score. The Knights would strike later in the period, and it was a 4-1 game after 40 minutes of play.

Cole Papageorgiou scored two consecutive goals in the third period, and the Lumberjacks defeated the Knights 6-1. Goaltender Vann Kulba stopped 27 of the 28 shots he faced for the win.

The Lumberjacks hosted the Uxbridge Bruins, at Scugog Arena, the following day, Sunday, October 8th.

There were no goals scored through the first half of the game, with neither team able to capitalize on several power play chances.

Nearly 11 minutes into the second period, Jake Weatherall scored the first goal of the game, putting Port Perry ahead 1-0. 38 seconds later, Johannes Kalm snapped a puck past the Uxbridge goaltender, making it a 2-0 game. The Bruins would strike late in the period, cutting the lead to 2-1.

The game remained that way until late in the third period. With six minutes remaining on the clock, Kalm received a pass from the side of the net, from Cameron Marshall, and scored his second goal of the game. Marshall later added an empty net goal, and the Lumberjacks defeated the Bruins 4-1. Goaltender Gavin Bradt stopped 37 of the 38 shots he faced.
