Local trustee Carolyn Morton to chair DDSB in 2021

NORTH DURHAM: Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge Trustee Carolyn Morton will be taking on another role next year, Chair of the Durham District School Board (DDSB). The Board held their annual internal chair and committee election at a meeting on Monday, December 7th. Pickering Trustee Chris Braney had previously been serving as DDSB Chair. Ms. Morton had previously served as Chair of the Education Finance Committee and DDSB Vice Chair. She has been a trustee since 2010 and is in her third term. “As we face unique challenges in the middle of a global pandemic, I see our role as Trustees, to utilize our skill sets and knowledge bases, to help create safe and welcoming learning environments where our students and staff can grow and thrive. I look forward to working cooperatively and collaboratively with my colleagues on the Board, and with staff, to help carry out the critical work of the Durham District School Board, and provide good governance. Together, we will work to Ignite Learning,” a statement from Ms. Morton read. Whitby trustee Christine Thatcher will be the board’s Vice Chair in 2021.
