KAWARTHA LAKES: Jeff Beukeboom and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes are hoping the 25th Jeff Beukeboom Charity Classic Golf Tournament will again be successful.
“The more [money] the better. We’re always trying to squeeze the last dollar out of the prizes and the different things that we can auction off to benefit the kids,” Mr. Beukeboom said.
In the 24 years of its existence, the tournament has raised over $570,000 for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes Foundation.
“Because of events such as the Jeff Beukeboom Charity Classic, Club programs are afforded with the guarantee that no child will ever be denied access due to financial difficulties,” read a press release from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes.
The tournament will once again be at Wolf Run Golf Club, with this year’s event scheduled for Thursday, August 1st. Golfers will arrive around 9:30 a.m., then there will be an early lunch at 10:30 a.m. before the shotgun start of the tournament at noon.
Mr. Beukeboom told The Standard why he feels this cause is so important.
“I think it goes without saying when you are investing in the future when you are of this county, then everyone prospers, everyone benefits from it,” he said.
Amy Terrill, the local Boys and Girls Club executive director, stressed the importance of this tournament for the club.
“It’s absolutely critical. It’s the largest fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes. It’s a huge event in our calendar, it adds an amazing profile for the club, [and] it reinforces with a lot of really important people in our community the value of the club and what we do, and why it is important to continue to support the programs for youth in our community,” she explained.
The first time they held this tournament was in 1994. That year, the tournament raised $3,600. The tournament raises on average over $35,000 per year.
