SCUGOG: A fire at the Piano Inn and Café has forced the local Port Perry business to close temporarily.
The fire occurred in the early morning of Monday, July 31st, and working smoke alarms led to a rather quick response from local Scugog firefighters.
"There were no [business] staff onsite as we were closed, thankfully. At no time did we fear for our safety. It didn't get that far. I won't get into all the details, but the fire alarms saved our lives. Thirteen of our Township's firefighters came to help secure the properties," read a Facebook post from business owner Christy Stone Curry on Facebook.
While no damage estimates have been made available yet, Ms. Stone Curry stated in her post that there is "minimal damage."
"We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the volunteers who came to help us in crisis," she wrote.
Ms. Stone Curry noted the closure will also allow the local business to "clean up and, more importantly, process this."
"Although we are all fine, this has been traumatic," she concluded.
