KAWARTHA LAKES: Champions of accessible health care, FDC (Fidani D. Carlo) Foundation has donated $1,200,000 to the Ross Memorial Hospital (RMH) Foundation to transform ultrasound imaging services at Ross Memorial Hospital. To inspire even greater support for this high-priority hospital need, FDC Foundation is challenging the community to join them. Once $500,000 is raised, it will unlock an additional $500,000 match gift from FDC, bringing their total gift to $1.7 million!

“With this incredible matching opportunity, every donation from every individual, business, and community organization – every single gift doubles,” said Erin Coons, RMH Foundation CEO. “Thanks to FDC Foundation and our donor community, we are supporting the best possible care for patients by putting the best tools in the right hands and in the right places. Working together, we are ensuring life-saving imaging technology is available right here in Kawartha Lakes.”

“Having state-of-the-art bedside equipment enables life-saving care and links critical information to care providers in the moment,” said Tim Shauf, RMH Foundation campaign chair. “The ultrasound project is a vital component of our WE ARE THE ROSS capital campaign, ensuring better, safer, faster care for our growing community. This leadership gift from FDC Foundation is a wonderful, welcome leap forward that will help the Ross team deliver timely, expert care to patients of all ages.”

Ross Memorial’s high-priority ultrasound project includes five ultrasound units, two echocardiography units for cardiac imaging, and five portable point-of-care ultrasound units dedicated to the ICU, Dialysis, OR, Internal Medicine and the Hospitalist Service for the rapid assessment and treatment of critically ill patients throughout the hospital. The project also includes advanced software such as cardiology picture archiving, as well as dedicated workstations, stretchers, and renovations, enabling more patient exams and reducing wait times.

“This investment from FDC Foundation is making it possible for patients in our community to access the latest diagnostic imaging technology close to home,” said Veronica Nelson, President & CEO of Ross Memorial Hospital. “Access to new, local, modern equipment relies on the generosity of donors, as these costs are not covered through government funding. We are deeply grateful to FDC Foundation and our community supporters for making these important advancements in patient care possible.”

Advanced ultrasound technology helps the Ross team save lives, guide treatment and improve pain and symptom management in every patient care area. Ultrasound is used to map, measure and guide procedures including central line placement, paracentesis, and IV insertion. Its precision imaging is instrumental in breast cancer care, detecting fetal abnormalities and problems in and around the heart. It is the tool of choice for diagnosing gallstones, early signs of kidney and liver disease, and blood clots in the veins.
