Have you been listening to the cicadas sing these last few weeks? They certainly fill the night air with such a warm feeling.

I was so concerned in the Spring because I didn’t see the honey bees working on the snowdrops and other spring blossoms, and the pear tree was just loaded in bloom. Well, something worked 9-5 because the pear tree was loaded in fruit, but of course a lot of the pears are quite small, which took a lot of picking up when they fell, amid the hornets. I’m sure you’ve noticed your lawn has to be cut twice as often; no comparison to the few times we cut last year, as usual, and it’s September!

Our daughter Julia attended a “We’ve turned 60” Port Perry High School reunion this past weekend, and it was a fun time for everyone who could make it. She sent a picture of the six 60-year-old students who attended Epsom Public School before heading to Port Perry High School (Rob Page, Janet Hofstra, Susanne Holy, Ken Langille, Julia, and Glen Kerry). Time flies, and I can hardly believe these kids are 60 now. The Greenbank students also took a remembrance photo, and because they moved back and forth, they knew each other well before heading to high school.

I hope all students and teachers have enjoyed their first week of school and have settled in nicely.

Our family would like to thank everyone who has offered help and concern for Rob in so many ways. This wide community is always so gracious, with a helping hand. We can’t say enough good things about our medical system and the way they care for us too.

The Bethesda Reach Women's Institute are once again planning a “delectable dessert and fashion show” on Thursday, September 24th, at 7 p.m., at the Senior Centre on Marietta Street, in Uxbridge. Fashions are provided by Woods Clothing and Threads Boutique, both here in Uxbridge. All profits go toward scholarships for students at Port Perry and Uxbridge high schools. Price is $25.

The fair weekends have come to a close for another year, but what a celebration for each agricultural community. The weather was excellent for both. A million thanks to all the volunteers who spent hours leading up to these events and during all four days. Please pat yourself on the back for such an excellent fair.
