The month of August has crept up on us as we were looking backward. We have experienced some very warm July days, but with the beauty of the rain which fell, our lawns and garden have survived very well.

Don’t talk to me about the Japanese beetles, which are here by the thousands, and I pick twice a day. I sure hope you’re not plagued with them.

I am wishing Birthday, Anniversary and any celebration you’re having this month the best of times shared with the ones you love

Durham West 4H held its Go for the Gold competition Thursday night at the Sunderland Town Hall. Six teams from various clubs answered questions from the 4-H handbooks, which included financial, making maple syrup, and sheep. Our winning team was a group of mixed club members, and our runner-up was the Tractor Pulling Club. The Durham West team will now travel to Peterborough on August 18th to compete in the Region 3 Championship for the chance to represent the region at the Royal Winter Fair in November.

I hope everyone enjoyed the long holiday weekend, even if some of it was spent harvesting wheat and baling straw. Every farmer is happy to get the job done but happy for the rain too, and both happened at our farm.

The Church service at Epsom this coming Sunday, August 9th, is at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome to worship and fellowship following.

Church at the Glen is on August 9th, at 7 p.m. Rev. Ken Davis will be the guest speaker. It’s a beautiful little country church to worship in.
