SCUGOG: COVID-19 concerns have led to the cancellation of the 2020 edition of the Port Perry Fair. On Friday, May 8th, the Port Perry Agricultural Society released a letter announcing the cancellation of this year’s local fair. “Out of an abundance of caution, the Board of Directors of the Port Perry Agricultural Society have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Port Perry Fair-scheduled for the September Labour Day weekend,” the letter from agricultural society president Barbie Bisschop read. “Due to the current world circumstances and the ever changing threat of the COVID-19 virus we feel it is our responsibility to do everything possible to avoid risk to you. The health and safety of our community, participants, volunteers and fair goers is our priority.” The 2021 edition of the fair is scheduled to be held September 4th, 5th and 6th; so mark your calendars because the organizers can’t wait to celebrate with the community then. Last month, Uxbridge Fall Fair organizers announced their 2020 fair has been cancelled. “In these uncertain times, the safety and well-being of our volunteers and our community is of utmost importance. We wish to be prudent with our human and financial resources. For these reasons, the Board of Directors of the Uxbridge-Scott Agricultural Society wishes to advise that the 2020 Uxbridge Fall Fair is officially cancelled,” read a Facebook post from the Uxbridge Fall Fair board of directors. “The Uxbridge Fall Fair has overcome many challenges in its 156 years and we will overcome this one too. We look forward to having much to celebrate together with our community at our 2021 Fair!”
