DURHAM/KAWARTHA: The 2025 Canadian federal election brought significant developments in Ontario, particularly in the Kawartha-Haliburton and York-Durham ridings. Both areas reaffirmed their support for the Conservative Party of Canada, with incumbent Jamie Schmale securing another term in Kawartha-Haliburton and newcomer Jacob Mantle winning the newly established York-Durham riding.
MP Jamie Schmale, the Conservative incumbent, successfully defended his seat in the Kawartha-Haliburton riding. Mr. Schmale, who has represented the area since 2015, continues to be a prominent figure in the Conservative Party. His re-election ensures ongoing representation for the region under Conservative leadership.
In the newly formed York-Durham riding, Conservative candidate Jacob Mantle emerged victorious, becoming the first Member of Parliament for the district. Mr. Mantle, a lawyer and former Uxbridge councillor, previously ran in the Pickering-Uxbridge riding during the 2021 election. The York-Durham riding encompasses areas including Scugog, Brock, Georgina, Uxbridge, and Whitchurch-Stouffville, combining regions from former ridings such as Durham, Haliburton-Kawartha-Brock, Oshawa, and Markham-Stouffville.
Jacob Mantle's campaign focused on local issues like agriculture, economic development, and affordable housing. His victory reflects the Conservative Party's continued strength in Ontario's rural and semi-urban regions.
The election results in Kawartha-Haliburton and York-Durham highlight the Conservative Party's sustained influence in these areas. MP Schmale's re-election provides continuity for constituents, while MP Mantle's win introduces fresh representation for the newly established York-Durham riding.
