NORTH DURHAM: The Durham riding NDP candidate for the 2022 provincial election has been selected.
At a nomination meeting, on Wednesday, May 4th, the Ontario NDP named Chris Borgia as their Durham candidate.
Mr. Borgia was born and raised in Durham Region and is president of the Durham Region Labour Council.
“With many people I’ve had the opportunity to speak with, through my involvement in the labour movement, I came to realize there are many people talking and saying, ‘things are not alright’ and they go unheard,” Mr. Borgia said in his acceptance speech.
He also explained what he would bring to the role as Durham’s MPP.
“I’m a problem solver, and I’ve always gotten excited to find solutions to people’s, and the greater community’s, needs.”
He listed, ending the privatization of long-term care homes and creating more support for people with autism and their families, as the focus of his campaign.
“We’ll make strong investments in public healthcare, hire thousands of healthcare workers, and make sure they’re paid a fair living wage, so they want to stay in their field,” Mr. Borgia added.
In a statement, Oshawa MPP Jennifer French explained why the party is excited to have Mr. Borgia as their candidate.
“We need Chris Borgia on our NDP team. A life-long resident of Durham region, he knows the challenges facing local families. We need better than Liberals and Conservatives, who allowed our cost of living to skyrocket while they cut the public services we depend on, like health care and education. As a labour leader, Chris is focused on good jobs for Durham and making sure our growing communities have the public services they need.”
