Recovery Efforts Continue at Uxbridge Public Library Following Fire

UXBRIDGE: Just after 4 p.m., on July 21st, the Uxbridge Public Library was impacted by a fire, caused by a lightning strike. The Uxbridge Fire Department responded quickly, arriving on scene and extinguishing the fire before significant damage occurred. During the incident, library staff acted quickly, to secure the site. All library staff and camp participants were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.

Since then, recovery efforts have been initiated, as Township and Library staff, alongside key partners, work to restore the facility. The library was temporarily closed while recovery work continued. Structural inspections and assessments have confirmed there are no significant structural concerns, and the building has been deemed safe for re-entry. Additional inspections, of internal assets and building systems, will continue over the next few days.

The fire caused damage to the exterior shingles on the library’s clock tower. The affected area has been temporarily tarped, to protect the building, while permanent repairs are coordinated and completed.

The Uxbridge Public Library reopened to the public and resumed regular operations on July 24th.

Connectivity services have been restored, and all library services are now operating as usual.

Repairs to the clock tower are being coordinated, with work expected to take place over the coming weeks.
