KAWARTHA LAKES: On September 12th, Caressant Care on Mary Street, the long-term care home in Lindsay, proudly celebrates its 50th anniversary, a milestone half a century in the making. Since its early days, this home has become a cornerstone of care in the Kawartha Lakes, providing comfort, dignity, and community to generations of residents.

Founded as part of Caressant Care Nursing & Retirement Homes Ltd., the broader organization traces its roots to 1975, when its first long-term care home opened in Woodstock. Today, Caressant Care operates 15 long-term care homes and 10 retirement homes across Ontario, staying true to its small-town values.

At the heart of their philosophy is a mission to create tight-knit, resident-centered communities. Their corporate vision emphasizes quality, person-centered care in which residents come first, and treating each person with dignity, respect, and compassion.

In Lindsay, the Mary Street home has grown into a 124-bed long-term care facility that offers a warm, home-like environment.

The current manager, Albert Militante, leads the team with dedication and a steady commitment to excellence; under his guidance, the Lindsay home has earned a three-year CARF accreditation for its person-centered care.

Caressant Care Lindsay provides a broad spectrum of services: around-the-clock nursing care, air-conditioned resident rooms, recreational programming, and strong links with local health partners, including Home and Community Care, Ross Memorial Hospital, and Kawartha Lakes Hospice. Their quality-improvement plan, updated in 2025, underscores continuous innovation in safety, care, and technology.

Over the years, the Mary Street home has become more than a care facility; it’s a community hub. Family-friendly events like the annual Fall Fair trip, Christmas celebrations, and a Fall Colour Boat Cruise foster bonds between residents, their loved ones, and staff.

As Caressant Care Lindsay reflects on its first 50 years, Albert and his team express gratitude for families' trust, staff's dedication, and the wider community's support. Looking ahead, they reaffirm their commitment to their founding values: to provide compassionate, personalized, and respectful care in a safe, welcoming home for the next 50 years and beyond.
